Food Waste

Almost half of residents’ kerbside refuse bins are made up of food waste.

Between April 2021 and March 2022, Hounslow threw more than 12 thousand tonnes of avoidable food waste into household rubbish (West London Waste Authority)… that’s equivalent to a staggering 24 million school meals wasted.

The carbon footprint of food waste is the equivalent of taking 1 in 5 cars off UK roads

By keeping food waste out of the rubbish bin, we can save up to 14 million tonnes of Co2 per year

The average UK family could save £60 per month, around £720 per year, by saving food from the bin

Around 3 million glasses of milk are thrown away each day

Wasting food is one of the biggest contributors to climate change.

When we throw away food that could have been eaten, we are not just wasting food but the valuable resources that went into making it. This includes water, land, and greenhouse gases.

But we have the power to change this. Reducing your food waste is great for the planet and great for your bank account. What’s not to like?
